McConnell Destroys House Dems Attempt To Control The Senate
The House Dems are still holding the articles of impeachment hostage. They were hoping that McConnell would give in to their demands on how to handle the impeachment. But McConnell informed them today that they still have no leverage, in fact, the Senate already has the votes ready to pass a resolution on how they want to run it.
"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Tuesday he has the votes to start an impeachment trial even without an agreement on potential witnesses – once the chamber receives the articles from the House.
“We have the votes," McConnell told reporters."
"Fifty-one senators determine what we do and there will be, I'm sure, intense discussion, once we get past phase one, about the whole witness issue," McConnell said."
Shortly after McConnell's announcement, Schumer vowed to press ahead with Democrats' demands for a fair trial with witnesses and documents.
“We will not let them avoid the vote. They can delay it, but they can’t avoid it,” Schumer, D-N.Y., said.
“It's time for Speaker Pelosi to get on with it or get out of the way,” Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said Tuesday.
“Their turn is over. They’ve done enough damage. It’s the Senate’s turn now to render sober judgment,” McConnell said on the Senate floor last week, referring to House Democrats."
"Two key moderate senators, Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), on Monday evening backed McConnell’s position that the Senate should follow the precedent of the 1999 Clinton impeachment trial and defer until later in the process the question of calling additional witnesses."
This whole impeachment attempt is ridiculous. The House Dems rushed the whole process in their attempt to try and impeach the president. They failed to get adequate evidence, which is apparent, as not a single House Republican voted to impeach Trump, and now they are holding the articles of impeachment hostage as if they can somehow force the Senate to do their bidding. Hopefully, the articles of impeachment can now finally move to the Senate as McConnell has let the House Dems know their tactic has failed. So now we wait to see if Pelosi is ready to put an end to this unfounded impeachment attempt.
