California Governor Gavin Newsom has been caught multiple times disobeying his own tyrannical pandemic orders. However, catching the good Governor breaking his own insane laws has done very little to help the churches and small businesses for closed while the Governor continues on business as usual.
That is until the federal court of appeals ruled in favor of a California Church who just wanted to regain their rights to worship. The win couldn’t come at a better time as most of California’s churches are on life-support with facing permanent closure. This new ruling should open the doors for other houses of worship to fight for their rights to worship.
“The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals awarded the South Bay United Pentecostal Church relief against the state’s worship restrictions. The church is one of several that have taken California governor Gavin Newsom (D.) to court over coronavirus lockdowns. The decision comes just days after the Supreme Court granted relief to a Pasadena church.
“The guidance from the Supreme Court makes it clear that the restrictions in California are unconstitutional. It’s just a matter of time before they’re struck down,” Paul Jonna, special counsel to the Thomas More Society, which worked on the case, told the Washington Free Beacon in a phone interview.
The lawsuits successfully argued that Newsom unfairly targeted religious services while openly welcoming secular indoor gatherings and large outdoor protests. The church also criticized Newsom for attending a dinner at a high-end restaurant in Napa Valley while he was urging Californians to make sacrifices to combat the spread of the virus.”
Newsom rolled out a massive lockdown across the state that has yet to taste a scrap of freedom since the beginning of this pandemic. Newsom’s grip continues to tighten around residents despite there being no evidence that the lockdowns have slowed the virus’s spread. To add insult to California residents, the governor has been caught on several occasions not following his own orders and showing favoritism to the film industry while suffocating the mom and pop stores.
Another California church is already appealing to the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, the Liberty Counsel filed the final reply brief on behalf of Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry that have campuses across the state including Pasadena, Los Angeles, Irvine and Corona. The group filed a lawsuit against Governor Newsom for what it calls an “unconstitutional worship ban and discriminatory treatment.” According to the Liberty Counsel, Justice Elena Kagan issued an order to Newsom to respond to the churches’ request.
In a statement, Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “Governor Gavin Newsom’s ‘color-coded executive edicts’ violate the freedom to worship, which is protected in the First Amendment. No pastor, church, or parishioner in America should have to choose between worship and prison. This discrimination must stop.”
