Social Media Giants like Facebook and Twitter have shown us where they stand with how they treated Trump. Trump is still banned from Facebook over the January 6th Raid. Facebook has been purging conservatives from its platform for years now. But while Trump was in office he tried to stop the censorship with an executive order. Biden is doing the opposite, he is encouraging the censorship of conservatives, and just got rid of Trump’s order to stop censorship on social media.
“Several left-wing or left-leaning voting advocacy groups, including Rock the Vote, Voto Latino, and Common Cause, along with three others, wrote a letter in an attempt to convince Biden to overturn the order. “The ‘Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship’ is a drastic assault on free speech designed to punish online platforms that fact-checked President Trump. Its continued existence threatens Internet users’ ability to obtain accurate, truthful information about voting and other civic subjects,” the groups said in the letter.
Rock the Vote, Voto Latino, Common Cause, Free Press, and MapLight filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in August 2020. Decode Democracy, another one of the parties that signed the letter to Biden, is “part of MapLight,” according to its website. In the lawsuit, the groups alleged that the Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship was created in response to Twitter reportedly adding a fact-checking label to one of Trump’s tweets about mail-in voting.”
This is what Biden is undoing:
“Free speech is the bedrock of American democracy. Our Founding Fathers protected this sacred right with the First Amendment to the Constitution. The freedom to express and debate ideas is the foundation for all of our rights as free people.
In a country that has long cherished the freedom of expression, we cannot allow a limited number of online platforms to handpick the speech that Americans may access and convey on the internet. This practice is fundamentally un-American and anti-democratic. When large, powerful social media companies censor opinions with which they disagree, they exercise a dangerous power. They cease functioning as passive bulletin boards, and ought to be viewed and treated as content creators.”
Libs of course think this is great, as they hate Trump and don’t want conservatives to have a voice on social media. They are also upset that conservatives are not just laying down and taking it. Liberals complained when they heard about the rush to get on conservative platforms like Rumble or Parler. But what do they expect when Facebook and Twitter are silencing conservatives non-stop? Facebook and Twitter were by no means abiding by Trump’s executive order in the first place, but now with Biden undoing the order, it will be open season on conservatives.
