You undoubtedly receive a number of calls each week with an unknown caller ID in modern communication. They are all almost always spam calls and they really are really a pain in the neck.
These calls are made to scare you into believing that there is some serious issue with your bank account, which they can then cure for a quick $299 (or whatever number they pick) or sell you something and later steal your money.
Like, no matter how much you try to avoid it, you will invariably get disturbed. But while most of us would simply hang up on them, one recipient, totally fed up with the brazen attempts by criminals to get his money, then took matters into his own hands.
Roy Baker has taken matters into his own hands and has found a brilliant way of getting rid of annoying scam phone callers. The life hack, courtesy of user Baker (@1roy_jr), is the latest in a long line of TikTok tips for dealing with scams.
In a video posted to his account, Roy can be seen receiving a call from one of the said fraudsters. And this is where he gets a little creative. His video, which has drawn more than 9 million views, shows how Baker uses a fake voicemail to ward off scammers.
Baker received a call labeled “spam risk.” From there, he answers and immediately breaks into a spot-on impression of automated voicemail audio. Convincing the con artist that he was with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Baker said:
“Hello. Thank you for calling the CIA. You’ve reached our Scam and Fraud Division. All our agents are currently assisting other callers. To further assist you, please hold while we download your incoming and outgoing call logs to be analyzed against our database of known scam and fraud operations. An agent will be with you shortly.”
Unsurprisingly, the caller seems taken aback and swiftly hung up the phone. The hack is funny and ironic, and without Baker’s deep-toned voice, probably impossible to replicate. Still, many called the idea “genius.”
Roy is able to get these people to stop calling him so often by scamming the scam artist. And People across TikTok were delighted to see that he came up with a creative way to teach spammers to stop calling him all the time. His unique prank has drawn a lot of applause.
