This pandemic has turned many parents into teachers as many schools throughout the country are not planning to hold classes until this Fall. Schools are just trying to be safe. But some parents may even find that their kids do better under their supervision and opt out of brick and mortar classes this fall and look into homeschooling regularly if they can afford to do so. But a Harvard Professor claims Homeschooling should be banned. She claims that it promotes White Supremacy… Since when is that part of the curriculum?
“Prof. Elizabeth Bartholet is leading the charge against those who actively resist public schools and she believes that the generation currently being homeschooled is an eventual, if not active, breeding ground for racism, sexism, and isolationism.
“Many homeschool precisely because they want to isolate their children from ideas and values central to public education and to our democracy. Many promote racial segregation and female subservience. Many question science. Many are determined to keep their children from exposure to views that might enable autonomous choice about their future lives,” she claims.
In the essay for Harvard Magazine, Bartholet goes one step further, arguing not just that homeschooling is, itself, problematic, but that it should be snuffed out as a practice by the heavy hand of American government.
“Homeschooling, she says, not only violates children’s right to a ‘meaningful education’ and their right to be protected from potential child abuse, but may keep them from contributing positively to a democratic society,” the article’s author reports.”
“S]urveys of homeschoolers show that a majority of such families (by some estimates, up to 90 percent) are driven by conservative Christian beliefs, and seek to remove their children from mainstream culture,” Harvard Magazine warns. “Bartholet notes that some of these parents are ‘extreme religious ideologues’ who question science and promote female subservience and white supremacy.”
This is ridiculous on the professor’s part. Yes, there are always going to be a few bad apples but the majority are not going to be white supremacists. What is wrong with teaching your kids to turn the other cheek, and not to cast the first stone… It seems like she is just prejudiced against Christians and upset some kids are not going to be indoctrinated with her liberal ideologies.

Wow, talk about narrow minded! We home schooled our daughter and she is on the deans list with honors. She welcomes everyone she meets and has a open view of the world around her. She is conservative in her beliefs and has a strong walk with her Christian faith. She knows her countries history and has a strong world view. She can maintain a check book, credit card and knows home repair and knows how to live within her means. She understands that we live in a Republic. So where does this professor think she knows what is best for the country. I know what is best for my family and I intend on continuing to it.
Homeschooled our children through highschool.
Unlike their government schooled colleagues (who still have useless degrees for Art; Humanities; various BS studies; work in low wage unskilled jobs; live at home with parents…) they were readily admitted to UGA honors then onto University of Pennsylvania (Ivy League).
Did not have time for mindless video games and sick hollywood movies.
Clepped classes bec SAT II test scores were so high and therefore graduated early.
Paid for their own education by WORKING.
WORK hard in a real job and support themselves!

Black students are at home now and are studying via home schooling. there is a very good possibility that these children will enjoy studying at home more than they did at school.

Actually, public schools promote anti-white bigotry. Home schools promotes learning which the kids are not getting anymore in public schools. Public school is no longer about education. It’s about indoctrination.
This conservative Pentecostal Christian believes that science is the study of God’s wonderful and complex handiwork. It engenders appreciation of the amazing nature of what He’s done. It’s study is a blessing.

PS; We home-schooled our children at a young age and later sent them to church schools. Just as we taught our children, those schools taught them to appreciate the differences God designed in us, including racial ones. Racial intolerance was see as a grave sin.

She said a lot of people that homeschool question science. She obviously isn’t a professor of science. Gee, I hope not. If I had a professor of science that didn’t understand the definition of science, I would certainly want my money back.
What she actually means that homeschoolers question scientific theories that she likes, and she doesn’t want anyone questioning them. Man-made global warming perhaps. Science is based on criticism and the scientific method is a methodology to answer questions. It removes bias through objective reproducible evidence. That’s why much of what people like this professor claim to be science, is in fact not science at all.
So, to say that homeschoolers question science, just proves that the are more scientific than she is. It is sad that a Harvard professor. I’d check her resume, as I have heard some professors there will lie about their credentials and genealogy just to get a job there.

Professors like this are the reason I encouraged my kids NOT to attend 4 year colleges. Oldest is a !st Sgt in the Army. 2nd is a Texas Police officer. 3rd looking at welding schools. last want to learn construction, leaning toward plumbing and electrical. All have been taught to look at all sides of an issue, speak their minds and not to be afraid to challenge things they heard while in public school.

Ms Bartholet may be “well schooled”, but certainly is poorly educated. However, this is what we have come to expect from Harvard, more and more. Evidently, she is admitting that white people are more intelligent than those of color, since all of the children are schooled by their own parents, therefore, white parents are better equipped to educate their children than are people of color… but that does not rise to the level of White Supremacy… or does it? Asinine dribble from the Harvard “Elites” (like the Obamas) only proves that a truly “Educated” person from a Generic Advanced Education Institution of Learning, can often be Intellectually Superior, and Ms. Bartholet proves as much…! Personally, I only finished half of the 10th Grade, Graduated (with Honors) from a Marine Engineering School. which condensed 3 years of study into two, but then I was reading the Newspaper to my Dad at 3 years old…
