A.G. Barr Warns These Lockdowns Are Killing America
This pandemic has us in a pickle. Americans have been listening to the president and the guidelines put forth by the Corona Taskforce. So we are all trying to help in flattening the curve in order to slow the spread of the virus. But the lockdown and social distancing while great for fighting a virus, are tough, not only on the paycheck but our economy as a whole. Millions of Americans are out of work as their jobs are not possible during this lockdown or closed as they were not deemed essential enough to stay open. A.G. Barr commented about the conundrum we Americans are facing and feels if the lockdown continues America may not survive.
"Barr appeared on conservative host Hugh Hewitt’s radio show on Tuesday. The Justice Department head said that while strict government action may have been justified to slow the coronavirus, the overbearing regulations are risking doing more harm than good.
“These are unprecedented burdens on civil liberties right now. You know, the idea that you have to stay in your house is disturbingly close to house arrest,” Barr said. “I’m not saying it wasn’t justified. I’m not saying in some places it might still be justified. But it’s very onerous, as is shutting down your livelihood.”
Barr went on to compare the coronavirus-induced shutdowns to chemotherapy treatments for a cancer patient.
“Your first thing is to drive [the cancer] back to a more manageable state, and that’s what we’re doing and have done,” the attorney general said. “The question is, you can’t just keep on feeding the patient chemotherapy and say ‘well, we’re killing the cancer,’ because we’re getting to the point where we’re killing the patient.”
I understand his concern as America needs to get back to work and get back to normal. But at what cost? How many Americans are going to die or become severely ill due to ending this lockdown prematurely? What really concerns me is that Dr. Fauci is claiming that the end of the month may be too soon. So we may experience a new spike and more outbreaks. Currently, we are showing about a 5% mortality rate according to the CDC. Maybe businesses should continue to check for it as they do at some stores by testing for fevers before people enter. The best of both worlds scenario at least until we know this thing is beaten.
