The Afghanistan fiasco is ongoing. We still have thousands of Americans stuck in Afghanistan that are depending on the kindness of the Taliban to grant them safe passage to the airport. This is the backward situation Biden has put us in. We should have all non-military personnel out of the country well before we pulled up stakes to leave. But while thousands of Americans depend on this kindness, Biden has put out a statement demanding the Taliba treat women better. This is such an odd move.
The U.S. Dept. of State released the following:
“This statement has been co-signed by Albania, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, European Union, Honduras, Guatemala, North Macedonia, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Senegal, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
Begin Text:
We are deeply worried about Afghan women and girls, their rights to education, work, and freedom of movement. We call on those in positions of power and authority across Afghanistan to guarantee their protection.
Afghan women and girls, like all Afghan people, deserve to live in safety, security, and dignity. Any form of discrimination and abuse should be prevented. We in the international community stand ready to assist them with humanitarian aid and support, to ensure that their voices can be heard.
We will monitor closely how any future government ensures rights and freedoms that have become an integral part of the life of women and girls in Afghanistan during the last twenty years.”
The women in Afghanistan are being abused by the Taliban already and they do need help. But due to Biden’s gigantic screw-up, we are now at the mercy of the Taliban to get thousands of Americans out of the country peacefully. So unfortunately now is not the time to make demands, even when they are righteous. We need our people out of that country first, then we can tell the Taliban how they should be treating the women.
