Biden Claims He Struggled To Care For His Family On What Would Have Been $250k Today

Politicians try to be relatable to the public but many forget that they have not led normal lives. Biden made it pretty clear that he has been living the good life when he brought up how much he made back in 1973. Biden was trying to be relatable to people that make 42k a year now, lower middle class. But back in 1973, the minimum wage was $1.60/hour so making 42k was great, as it meant he was making $20 an hour, almost 20x more than the minimum.

But that’s not the story he is selling.

During the Democratic presidential primary debate Tuesday night, former Vice President Joe Biden said he could not afford child care during his early Senate days while he living on a salary of $42,000 a year — a salary that in today’s dollars equals over a quarter of a million.

“I was a single parent, too,” Biden said after being asked about universal infant care. “When my wife and daughter were killed, my two boys I had to raise. I was a senator, a young senator, I just hadn’t been sworn in yet. And I was making $42,000 a year.”

I commuted every single solitary day to Wilmington, Delaware … 250 miles a day,” the former vice president continued. “Because I could not afford, but for my

Biden’s freshman Senate salary of $42,500 would be the equivalent of $256,370.77 in 2019 dollars, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation calculator.”

You have to wonder just how was he living that he was struggling. The average family in 1973 was making around $8000 a year and somehow Biden couldn’t handle to pay for childcare? This is how you know he is out of touch when it comes to how regular people live. I mean how much would he need a year to care for his children, a million? two million? What are they using ones to wipe with?

  1. Hell, I was around at the start of minimum wage which was 50 cents per hour and then went up to a dollar.
Biden must have lived like a king on 42K a year.

  2. People try to convince me “Republican is the party of the rich!” But when I counter, “If that were true, most of the Democrats in office would have to be Republican!” they get mad and start calling me names! Sure, $42K per year now may not sound like much, but in 1978, I was making $10K per year, and that is 5 years later! So I would have been ecstatic making $42K! Only the most ignorant of society falls for this type of “identity politics.” I guess that’s why Sleepy Joe is the presumptive Democratic Nominee! Trump 2020!
