The Boy Scouts of America have a tradition where they honor the veterans that gave their lives serving our country. They place a flag in front of the headstones of veterans for memorial day. It is a touching tradition. But it appears they may not be able to do it this year due to this overbearing pandemic.
“A longtime Memorial Day weekend tradition to honor veterans is now canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, but there are persisting calls to bring it back.
For decades, the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other groups have devoted part of the holiday to place small American flags at the graves of veterans and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice as a way to honor our country’s war heroes.
Yet this year the Department of Veteran’s Affairs has prohibited public events at the sites because of COVID-19. The Boy Scouts and other groups have been barred from carrying out the mass flag placements.
On Long Island, N.Y., where more than 500,000 veterans are buried at two national military cemeteries, there are demands for the VA to reconsider and rescind the ban.
“If we can’t figure out a way to make sure we are placing flags at their graves to honor them, then something is seriously wrong,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, whose county includes the sprawling Calverton and Long Island National Cemeteries, which hold more veterans than any other military cemetery in the nation, including Arlington National Cemetery.
Bellone is confident that officials can carry out a plan that would keep the Scouts safe.”
“We just commemorated VE Day, this is the generation that lived through the adversity of the Great Depression, they won World War II. What is it going to say about our generation if we can’t figure out a way to honor the greatest generation by placing flags at their graves on Memorial Day?” Bellone asked.”
Have the scouts wear masks and work sections. This is not a big deal and should not even be an issue. They would be out in the open air and they can just spread out and keep a 6ft distance while doing it. The world is not over because of COVID-19 we have to stop acting like it is this debilitating thing. Yes, people are going to get sick but we can take precautions and keep living.
And they want to know why they are going bankrupt. Who would want to join this organization after all the terrific changes they have made in the past few years?

The Scouts have lost their way…long ago. There are great alternatives available today. Get your son or grandson involved in one today!
What would one be? Our Assemblies of God has the Royal Rangers. there must be many more church related scouting organizations.
It’s not the scouts that cancelled the event. it was the DVA. I agree that the scout upper crust has effectively done away with them for most people but it is not the boys’ fault. there is plenty of blame to go around,starting with the queers who took advantage of young scouts because they were not vetted prior to hiring them to be “leaders”! I am an Eagle scout but would not let my son join them now.

We are over reacting to this flu type of virus. It isn’t the fault of the people but rather the fault of those little communist-democrat tyrants that think they have unlimited power. November should see ALL of them looking for jobs as well as ALL of the communist-democrats in the Congress. All of them should be voted out of office on that day, then maybe a real political party can emerge from their ashes that actually represents a large segment of our society and the rule of law.These pissy assed little pipsqueaks that call themselves Democrats all need to be swept away.

Now the boy scouts allow girls in their ranks, they have to contend with a lot of abuse allegations and they are bankrupt. They have NOTHING to offer. A lot of other organizations have risen as a healthy and wholesome alternative to the boy scouts, like the Troops of Saint George.
Since the Chicom coronavirus has not killed one child under the age of 15 & almost exclusively kills the elderly & people with serious underlying illnesses & because FRESH AIR & SUNSHINE are fantastic & healthy for children this utter & complete pandemic B S, & this ridiculous order, needs to end.

I was a Boy Scout and when I was, long ago, we obeyed the Scout Oath, not some un-American hog wash crap like they are exposed to today.
Those VA cemeteries are Huge & its outside, takes 2-3 + Troops alone to plant flags say 2 Scouts per row alone X rows to plant flags.
