Looks like Dems are at it again trying to rewrite history in their favor. This time they are trying to pretend that BLM didn’t take to the streets last year, holding cities hostage until their leaders reduced police budgets. White House Advisor Cedric Richmond claims that instead the pandemic and the GOP led to the high crime rates we are seeing now.
Richmond said as much while being interviewed by Chris Wallace.
“Let’s talk about who defunded the police. When we were in Congress last year trying to pass a rescue plan… I’m sorry not the Rescue Plan but an Emergency Relief Program for cities that were cash strapped and laying off Police and firefighters.
It was the Republicans who objected to it. And in fact, they didn’t get funding until the American Rescue Plan, which our plan allowed state and local governments to replenish their police departments and do the other things that are needed,’ he added.
‘So look, Republicans are very good at staying on talking points of who says defund the police,’ Richmond said. ‘But the truth is, they defunded the police. We funded crime intervention and a whole bunch of other things.”
Wallace then destroyed his rhetoric by pointing out the truth with a few stats.
“The New York Police Department saw a 53% increase in resignations and retirement last year.”
“The fifty biggest U.S. cities reduced their 2021 police budget by 5%, New York City by 15%.”
Richmond then blamed the pandemic for the decreases…

Senator Tim Scott weighed in on Richmond’s ridiculous claim.
“That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard all year long, and we have some very ridiculous things from the Democrats. But this is not the icing on the cake. This is the most ridiculous thing ever said. The facts are simple Seattle Portland, Los Angeles, Cleveland, and New York, Baltimore, all have defunded the police. What we have seen is a 40% increase in violent crimes in major cities. Because the Democrats have been defunding the police for the last year-plus. What we have done on the other side, of course, is to refund the police.”
Last year BLM took to the streets demanding the police be defunded. They looted, rioted, and even committed arson in some cases. Blue leaders bowed to BLM and hurt their police forces. The police felt abandoned by their communities and overworked due to staff cuts. So they resigned to find precincts that backed the blue or left the field entirely. This led to higher crime rates as there were no longer enough police to patrol cities and act as deterrents. So Richmond could not be more wrong.
