Quick someone tell the lawmakers of Wisconsin that we are in the middle of a Pandemic, because they are clearly not acting like it. Trump just explained that we are in the peak weeks of the Corona Virus here in the United States. He said that we are expected to see somewhere between 100k and 240k deaths nationwide. So, of course, states all over the nation are ordering people to stay home to try and flatten the curve. This order does allow for traveling for essential things like groceries and emergency medical care but the one thing it certainly doesn’t cover is voting…
“Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, had issued an executive order to delay the election, following an urgent warning by mayors of Wisconsin’s largest cities that “hundreds of thousands of citizens at risk by requiring them to vote at the polls while this ugly pandemic spreads.” But, the move drew instant pushback from the GOP-controlled state legislature and was overturned on the eve of the primary by the Republican-dominated state Supreme Court.
As long lines formed in urban areas and elsewhere, some 2,500 National Guard troops stepped in to provide some assistance, distributing hand sanitizer and other supplies to polling stations across the state.
In a surreal scene that rocketed around social media on Tuesday, Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos declared that the election was “incredibly safe” — even as he wore a face mask, safety glasses, gloves and a full protective gown. Vos was assisting the National Guard in ensuring a polling station functioned smoothly.”
“As the first state to hold a presidential primary contest in three weeks, Wisconsin became a test case for dozens of states struggling to balance public health concerns with voting rights.
Joe Biden hopes the state will help deliver a knockout blow to Sanders in the nomination fight, but the winner of Tuesday’s contest may be less significant than Wisconsin’s decision to allow voting at all. Its ability to host an election during a growing pandemic could have significant implications for upcoming primaries and even the fall general election.
After several hours of voting, there were signs that the Wisconsin test was not going well.
The state’s largest city opened just five of its 180 traditional polling places, forced to downsize after hundreds of poll workers stepped down because of the health risks. The resulting logjam forced voters to wait together in lines spanning several blocks in some cases. Many did not have facial coverings.”
“Sanders said that holding the election was “dangerous” and “may very well prove deadly.” He did not encourage his supporters to vote in person. Biden has largely avoided discussion of the Wisconsin contest in recent days, instructing his supporters only to “follow the science.”
Wisconsin has reported more than 2,500 coronavirus infections and 92 related deaths — 49 of them in Milwaukee County, where the voting lines were longest.”
Just what the heck are they thinking? People are going to die due to their demand to hold the Primary. Why couldn’t they just hold off a month after this virus has died down to nothing? This is a disgusting act and they should be ashamed of themselves.
Am I the only person in this country – in the world – who can figure out how to vote “safely”? OK, this is the way – step-by-step (which, by the way, is a religious spiritual song. “Step by step, we are going to see the king – – -“). Anyway,
1. Designate one specific WEEK to vote.
2. Designate one day of that week for REGISTERED voters to vote alphabetically. i.e., Monday is A-C, etc.
3. Voters drive to a voting booth, step out of vehicles, and insert photo ID similar to credit card purchases.. Photo taken (similar to drive through banks) and compared to registered documents.
4. Qualified voters electronically provided PAPER voting document. Once completed and reinserted in proper place, everyone re-enters vehicle and drive away. Next vehicle approaches and repeats procedure. Much like ordering at a “fast food” drive thru.
5. Daily voting times are 6 am – 9 pm.
6. As many “ballot stations” deemed necessary can be set up, similar to OPEN gates to enter a military installation.
7. Voters may VOTE only during voting times and during designated days.
8. Unless an exception is requested and granted, failure to adhere to voting times and assigned voting day, voting will be denied and votes will NOT be counted.
Please be aware that my proposal does several things.
1. Allow every qualified voter to vote efficiently and prevent illegal and unqualified people from voting. This will restore Constitutional purpose of voting.
2. Registration + voting day photo and photo ID provides effective means of eliminating voter fraud and “cleaning” voter rolls.
3. Waiting in line to vote will be no longer than current system plus voters wait in comfort.
4. Just like waiting in line to order, pay for, and receive a hamburger at a drive thru place, voters will not need additional “training” to vote.
I can conceive of only a few conflicts with this proposal.
1. DEMONCRAPS WILL BITTERLY OPPOSE IT.
2. Additional poll watchers and workers will need to be hired and trained.
3. Determining the number of voter – by alphabet – in order to determine the number of voting booths needed.
4. Traffic control
5. All of these things will be costly but worth it.
I agree totally with you David T.. but here in Ca. it’s to a point, they don’t even ask for ID’s.. we struggle with ‘Voter Fraud’… EVERY election… thank you Nancy Pelosi..(POS)
Thank you Wisconsin for not allowing the politically/media driven flu stop you from a basic foundation of the Constitution of the United States. The covid19 death rate is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than the ordinary flu as well as the number of traffic deaths per year.
This country has never been shut down before. We lived through the Obama/swine flu. and we’ll live through this. What you are finding out is, just how easy two people, both part of the health system, have managed to trash our constitution. Scarier still is, Trump is letting them. When you give up freedom for safety, you soon lose both.
