Where They Found A Missing Elderly Couple In Mexico Will Make You See Red…

A retired elderly couple from San Diego who was making the most of their retirement for years ended up in a gruesome murder case.

Ian Hirschsohn, a 78-year-old Solana Beach resident, and Kathy Harvey, a 73-year-old Tierrasanta resident, were stabbed to death, likely in late August, while asleep in bed at Hirschsohn’s longtime vacation home in El Socorrito in Mexico, a tiny beach town.

The couple was reported missing on September 2 after they did not show up in San Diego on August 30 as planned. Authorities, who found the bodies on September 5, say they found items at the scene that belonged to the suspect.

Hirschsohn’s daughter Ava Setzer identified the suspect to the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper as a member of the family that owns the ranch where her father’s home is located. She said her father knew the family well, including the suspect. According to Mexican census information, the tiny town of El Socorrito has a population of about 30.

“The past couple of months, this whole process, I can’t even describe how difficult it’s been,” she said.

According to Setzer, authorities believe the suspect stabbed the couple, loaded their bodies into Hirschsohn’s Toyota Land Cruiser, and drove to a well “in the middle of nowhere,” where he also dumped bedding from the home.

According to reports, the couple had apparently surprised the man during a robbery attempt, after which he killed them. He then used the couple’s car after putting the bodies inside.

He drove a short distance away from their home and dumped their bodies in a deep well of around 60 feet.

Hiram Sanchez, the head prosecutor in Northern Baja California, revealed it took a few days to retrieve the bodies because of the depth of the well and the way it was constructed. A witness led the police to the spot. The retired couple had been staying near San Quintin, around three hours south of the US-Mexico border.

After five months of investigation, authorities in Mexico have now made an arrest of the suspected killer of the couple that was found at the bottom of a well.

Emmanuel N (identified by first name and initial, as is customary in Mexico) is accused of murdering Ian Hirschohn and Kathy Harvey, in August of last year.

The State Department’s travel advisory for Mexico says to “exercise increased caution” in the states of Baja California and Baja California Sur due to criminal activity and violence. For Baja California, the advisory reads in part, “Particularly notable is the number of homicides in non-tourist areas of Tijuana.” Road travel in Mexico is particularly risky, according to the country information page, and travelers should avoid driving at night and always use toll roads when possible.
