The president of a California school district board resigned after he was accused of inviting high school students to perform at a “private adult gay party” that included alcohol, shirtless male entertainers, and a “dirty Santa.”
This disgusting school board president is our latest inductee into the Educator’s Hall of Shame, no other than 62-year-old Steven Llanusa. Llanusa is the former president of the Claremont Unified School District in Los Angeles County, Calif. Llanusa’s bio has been removed from the district website, and he has resigned.
According to CBS, on December 3, Llanusa hosted a holiday party at his home. And he invited the choir from one of the district’s high schools to perform. He also agreed to pay for the performance to help with a fundraiser.
All is well and good so far, right? Unfortunately, that is about as innocent as it got. As it turned out, this was a “naughty” holiday party, because of course, people feel the need to sexualize everything, including Christmas and high school students. The choir members waited an hour to perform. The party had an open bar, and the students were offered alcohol. They were also treated to the sight of shirtless male dancers and a “dirty Santa.”
According to the New York Post, Llanusa served on the board for 17 years and was re-elected in November.
Reportedly, Llanusa’s resignation occurred one day after a special school district meeting where parents came forward with concerns about the fact that high school students were in attendance at the party at his home. Photos of the scandalous party had emerged on social media and local news, some of which showed the students.
“[The students] were encouraged to take part in food and festivities. The students didn’t begin their scheduled performance until over an hour later and were offered alcohol by party guests among inappropriately dressed adult entertainers,” Sabrina Ho, one of the teen’s parents, reportedly said at the special meeting.
Another parent claimed that his daughter was in attendance at the party and was later interviewed by police. Both the Claremont Police Department and the school district launched investigations into allegations of misconduct surrounding the party.
“He always has … adult performers there dressed like that as eye candy at the party,” Deborah Kekone, the mother of a Chaparral Elementary School sixth grader. “They post pictures every single year of the party. The party wasn’t any different than any other party he’s ever had. It’s just that he decided this time to bring kids and expose them to all kinds of things that their parents were not aware of.”
