A young boy’s kindness towards a Waffle House waiter has had a significant impact on the man’s life. Kayzen Hunter, an eight-year-old from Little Rock, Arkansas, had been frequenting a local Waffle House for breakfast with his family when he struck up a friendship with Devonte Gardner, a waiter there.
Gardner had been working hard to provide for his family after having to move out of their rat-infested, mold-infected apartment into a low-income area. He was walking several miles a day to and from work and living with his wife and two daughters in a motel room.

Kayzen and his grandfather overheard the waiter discussing his predicament, and the young boy’s heart was moved to act. With the help of his mother, Vittoria Hunter, Kayzen set up a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $5,000 towards a new car for Gardner. His campaign, which he named “Help Devonte Get a Car,” quickly went viral, and donations began to pour in from all over the world.

The campaign caught the attention of a local news station, which helped spread the word further. In no time, the fund had skyrocketed to over $100,000, which was more than enough to buy Gardner a car and provide his family with a place to live for the next year. Gardner was left stunned by the outpouring of generosity from strangers, describing it as “really humbling.”
Kayzen and Gardner’s friendship had developed over the past year, with the young boy visiting the Waffle House regularly with his family. Gardner had made a point of memorizing Kayzen’s favorite meal, and the two would often joke around together. Gardner had been particularly impressed with Kayzen’s big heart and enthusiasm for life, saying of the boy, “he’s a wonderful kid.”
Kayzen’s mother was touched by her son’s determination to help Gardner, saying that he had refused to give up on the idea of starting a GoFundMe campaign. The young boy’s act of kindness shows how a little bit of compassion and empathy can go a long way in helping those in need.
Gardner said he was grateful for the opportunity to make people happy every day through his work at Waffle House, and he was touched by Kayzen’s efforts to help him in his time of need. The generous donations from strangers have given Gardner and his family a much-needed boost, and he expressed his gratitude to everyone who had contributed.
