Tensions have been running high with North Korea and the United States. So much so that North Korea has sent out a warning to stop with all of the military training in South Korea or else. But surprisingly our Secretary of Defense clapped back saying we are ready. But it is unclear if that is just the defense secretary or the Biden Administration.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Thursday warned North Korea:
“Our force remains ready to ‘fight tonight,’ and we continue to make progress toward the eventual transition of wartime Operational Control to a [Republic of Korea]-commanded, future Combined Forces Command,” the defense secretary said.”
He continued: “While meeting all the conditions for this transition will take more time, I’m confident that this process will strengthen our alliance.”
This was in response to North Korea’s warning:
“We have already declared our stand that no Democratic People’s Republic of Korea-U.S. contact and dialogue of any kind can be possible unless the U.S. rolls back its hostile policy towards the DPRK,” said first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Choe Son Hui, according to a statement released by state-run Korean Central News Agency on Thursday.
“North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s sister [also] issued an eerie message to the United States.
“We take this opportunity to warn the new U.S. administration trying hard to give off [gun] powder smell in our land,” Kim Yo Jong said in a statement referencing joint U.S. and South Korean military exercises in the region.
“If it [the U.S.] wants to sleep in peace for the coming four years, it had better refrain from causing a stink at its first step,” she added, according to an English translation.”
However, this is kind of a mixed message as Psaki claims they are instead focused on diplomacy.
“When asked about Kim’s remarks on Tuesday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters that the Biden administration did not have “a direct comment or response.”
″Our objective is always going to be focused on diplomacy and denuclearization in North Korea,” she said. “Our focus right now is on working with and coordinating with our partners and allies on a range of issues and including security in the region.”
So either Austin is being overzealous or he is revealing the future plans of the Biden Administration. It’s odd Dems always claim Republicans are warfaring but Trump kept us out of wars during his presidency. We will see if Biden is able to do the same.
