Navy Veteran and now former Boeing Executive Niel Golightly resigned after an article he wrote 33 years ago surfaced, revealing that at the time he felt women should not be in the military. This was not an uncommon opinion 30+ years ago, and some still hold that opinion today, it is their right to. We all have the freedom of speech. But Golightly felt he needed to step down because of the article, and gave up his career over a thirty-year-old opinion. And that right there is what is wrong with libs and their “tolerance…”
“Golightly stepped down Thursday as Boeing’s senior vice president of communications following an employee complaint about the 1987 article, which he called “embarrassingly wrong and offensive.”
“At issue is not whether women can fire M-60s, dogfight MiGs, or drive tanks,” Golightly, then a US Navy lieutenant, wrote in a US Naval Institute magazine. “Introducing women into combat would destroy the exclusively male intangibles of warfighting and the feminine images of what men fight for — peace, home, family.”
Golightly, who had only been with Boeing about six months, said he decided to resign for the company’s sake even though the article does not reflect his current views.
“My article was a 29-year-old Cold War navy pilot’s misguided contribution to a debate that was live at the time,” Golightly said in a statement.”
Liberals are pushing an over the top form of “tolerance” that punishes free speech and condemns people for having had opinions 30+ years ago. Our culture has been changing over the years, anyone can see that. The age of technology has made it so anything and everything is only a click away. But with it has come SJWs who are attacking people over things they wrote or said years back. Many times these were common opinions that are seen as outdated or unacceptable now. But that’s the thing, they are OLD opinions that many people have learned from and changed.
Look at Paula Deen, she is 74 years old and comes from Georgia. She let it slip that back in her youth, during the ’60s, people would use racial slurs and that she did too, as that’s what she was raised around. She lost her career over it. She is an older southern lady that lived through the Civil Rights Movement, what were people expecting? It’s the same here with Golightly or any of these people that are having their past dug up and scrutinized. People make mistakes or say things that would be deemed unacceptable now, but you can’t hold someone to the fire for it today. They live and learn, just as our society changes so do people. We should all have the chance to better ourselves and be accepted for who we are today, not for who we were or the stupid things we may have said in our youth.
