Master Sgt. David Royer found combat even when he was stateside. It all happened on a bridge in Kansas. A man for reasons still unknown started firing off from the bridge at random cars. Luckily for drivers that day, Royer, an active-duty soldier out of Fort Leavenworth, saw the shooter and took action, putting his life on the line to neutralize the threat to his fellow Americans.
“An active-duty soldier at Fort Leavenworth intervened in an active-shooter situation Wednesday morning on Centennial Bridge in Leavenworth, Kansas, and “saved countless lives,” according to police.
Leavenworth Police Chief Patrick Kitchens said they initially received multiple shots fired call around 11 a.m. from the bridge and believed the case to be road rage. But after further investigation, police found it was an active shooter situation with a suspect randomly firing at vehicles passing by with a handgun and a semi-automatic rifle.”
“This was an active shooter with multiple weapons on the bridge firing at cars with no particular association,” Kitchens said.
“There was an active-duty soldier assigned to Ft. Leavenworth waiting in traffic behind the event, saw the event unfold, determined it was an active shooter and intervened by striking the shooter with his vehicle, causing him to be critically injured, ending the encounter with the active shooter and likely saving countless lives.”
The man who suffered a gunshot wound is also an active-duty soldier at Ft. Leavenworth. The shooter is a Platte County resident.”
“April Steinke of Nextcare Urgent Care told KMBC she and a patient “heard some sirens, and I was like, ‘Wow. That’s awful close.'” Steinke added to the station she was impressed by the soldier’s quick thinking: “That’s a hero to me.” Investigators told KMBC they aren’t sure of the shooter’s motive but are looking into his history. Authorities added to the station that the shooter and the wounded soldier are stable.”
“…Royer – an active duty soldier for more than 15 years currently stationed at Fort Leavenworth – said he doesn’t feel necessarily feel like he is a hero.
“Most people in my situation would have done the same thing,” Royer said Thursday when speaking to the media at a news conference at Fort Leavenworth.
“I knew people’s lives were in danger. I needed to do something. My military training kicked in. So, I took action as I saw appropriate, and I just knew I had to do something.”
What are the odds an active U.S. soldier gets wounded on American Soil? God bless him and all of our servicemen that put their lives on the line for our well being.
Now the cowardly shooter will probably sue. Should have terminated the SOB!
They’ll probably charge the sgt. with dangerous driving!
Probably a stupid arsed mussie, or deranged democrat(so far all shooters so far are) not wanting to go to work to eat.. really pizzed him off, work, hell i’ll shoot someone before i work. Deranged individual now isn’t he?
Peaceful Protesting during the day in mass is acceptable and our rights under the First Amendment pleading for justice. The ONLY justice for violent protestors, looters, arsonist and killers do after curfew is their genocide and cremation the next day in a garbage dump.
