AOC is constantly coming down on capitalism. She practically ran Amazon out of New York and is constantly complaining about how she struggles to pay her student loans. Back in 2019 she even went as far as to call capitalism irredeemable. But I guess that her perspective has changed now that she is selling her own merchandise.
AOC back in 2019:
“Capitalism is an ideology of capital — the most important thing is the concentration of capital and to seek and maximize profit,” she said during an interview at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas, according to Bloomberg News.
“To me, capitalism is irredeemable,” she added, arguing that capitalism’s goals come at a cost to people and the environment, Bloomberg reported.”
AOC 2020:
“Tax The Rich” Shirt $58 not including shipping and handling.
It seems there has been a big change…
“This week, the democratic socialist fully embraced capitalism by peddling $58 shirts that say, “Tax The Rich” on them. The $58 does not include shipping and handling. AOC’s merchandise website indicated that it would cost an additional $9.22 to ship the product to my house, bringing the grand total for the shirt to $67.22. The shop stated that the shirt would ship via the U.S. Postal Service, and “ship in 1-2 weeks + 2 business days in transit.”
Pre-orders were being taken this week for the “gender-neutral fit” shirts.”
AOC received quite a bit of criticism online as many laughed at her exorbitant pricing.
“Selling a $58 sweatshirt to own the capitalists is the most AOC thing ever,” Eddie Zipperer, who teaches political science at Georgia Military College tweeted.
“Hey AOC I can’t afford this sweatshirt right now, you got a coupon code for the non-rich?” the Daily Caller News Foundation’s Mary Margaret Olohan tweeted.
But AOC still came back thinking she has ground to stand on.
“Republicans are freaking out bc we don’t use slave-wage labor for merch that funds grassroots organizing. But what’s the difference between Trump’s merch and ours? Ours is made in the US.
(& for GOP who joke that we should give for free, we actually do – just volunteer).”
So how are working families supposed to afford this? The proceeds of her merchandise help her fund her campaign. The shirt is of course sold out, because AOC’s base is crazy enough to buy such a pricey shirt, despite likely not being able to afford it.
