Kids have a lot of control over what they eat for lunch at school. A kid can choose to eat the green beans or throw them out. A kid also can choose to eat an apple instead of an ice cream sandwich. But as a parent, it’s your job to ensure that your child gets the right amount of nutrients their body requires daily.
As most children are in school, unfortunately, you can only be present for breakfast and you can’t always be there to monitor what they eat, because of this, this has led to most parents packing their child’s lunch for them. Thousands of parents across the country have been packing their children’s lunches for years now.
Although some of the kids are extremely picky eaters, your child may not like either of the options offered and are forced to eat a meal they don’t like or don’t eat at all. But one of the greatest perks of packing your child’s lunch is that you know for sure that your child is getting a meal they enjoy.—And that’s what Francesca Easdon, a mother from Kingwood, Texas did.
When you pack your child’s lunch, you always know what they will be eating, for Kyler, Francesca Easdon’s 5-year-old son, would happily eat chicken nuggets for every meal.
“Kyler wasn’t thrilled when I started packing more fruits and veggies in his lunch,”Francesca said.
Francesca started putting personalized notes in his lunchbox for his teachers to read to him in an effort to get him more enthusiastic about apple slices.
“I knew it would make him smile,” Francesca explained.
When dropping our kids off at daycare, we assume we’re leaving them in a safe and secure environment, one where they’ll be given the chance to grow and learn.
We don’t anticipate that they will be exploited by people who are entrusted with their care, as happened to Kyler.
Just like she had been for the past three years, Francesca dropped off Kyler, her 5-year-old son at Rocking Horse daycare. She left a note as what she always did with his lunch addressing her son’s teacher that said, “Please tell Kyler that his mommy loves him so much and I’m thinking about him. Thank you.”
However, the sweet gesture turned sour when an employee at Rocking Horse Day Care added a cruel response. In disbelief, Francesca was shocked to see the rude reply that says, “No! Put him on a diet and go away!”
Easdon, who says Kyler is in the 91st percentile for height and weight, couldn’t believe her eyes.
Francesca told ABC News: “It took a minute to register, what I even saw and I just kept re-reading it and I just stood there for a minute.”
Her son is a picky eater, she admitted in a Facebook post, but she’s started introducing healthier lunch options for him.
“For the record,” she added, “I feel that Kyler is absolutely perfect the way he is.”
Her post read: “I was absolutely livid and immediately reached out to the school. First thing this morning I was at the school waiting on the director with my mother-in-law for a meeting.”
The head of the school assured her that the situation would be looked into and dealt with. Francesca revealed that she already knew where she stood.
“When I asked them what are you planning to do about this … I let them know right then that the only resolution is that that person that wrote the note should be terminated.”
Francesca claims neither the teacher nor the school has expressed any remorse despite the fact that the teacher admitted to writing the note and was subsequently fired.
“I am disgusted that I put my trust in these people to care for my child and this is what I get in return.
“I’m extremely hands-on with my child’s care and still didn’t see this coming. Monitor your daycares closely and stay away from this facility, they do NOT deserve the privilege of teaching our children.” She said.
“To know a grown-up who knows how hard life is and how mean people can be can say something like that, especially about a child is — they’re sick. There’s something wrong.”
