It looks like Gop Senators in South Dakota have failed to protect the minors in their state. The GOP voted on a bill that would have made gender modifying treatment illegal for those under 16, as these procedures can be permanent and should not be made on a whim. But for some reason, the S.D. Senate was unable to pass bill 1057, leaving children in danger.
“On Monday, the South Dakota Senate killed a bill that would have permitted children under 16 who had undergone gender surgeries to sue health providers if the children regretted the decision later.
The Senate Health and Human Services Committee voted 5-2 to kill the bill, House Bill 1057, whose prime sponsor was Rep. Fred Deutsch. The original bill stated that doctors who performed gender changing surgeries would face a Class 1 misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of one year in jail and a maximum fine of $2,000, but Deutsch asked on Monday morning to amend the bill simply so the children could sue the health providers.
Nevertheless, the Senate voted to kill the bill anyway, as the Argus Leader reported, adding, “Deutsch said he set out to have a conversation and bill supporters were successful in that because it heightened parents’ awareness about the issue.” Deutsch said he believed Gov. Kristi Noem would oppose any similar legislation; Noem’s spokeswoman Kristin Wileman argued that Noem “never took a formal position on the legislation.”
“LGBT advocates and Democrats argued that the proposal would have stopped children with gender dysphoria from receiving medically necessary health care that improves their mental health. They demonstrated outside the Capitol before Monday’s Senate Health and Human Services Committee meeting.”
“The sponsor of the legislation — Republican state Rep. Fred Deutsch — likened procedures that would have been outlawed to “bizarre” medical experiments conducted by the Nazis.
“To me, that’s a crime against humanity when these procedures are done by these so-called doctors … that dance on the edge of medicine,” Deutsch told Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council recently. “You know, I’m the son of a Holocaust survivor. I’ve had family members killed in Auschwitz. And I’ve seen the pictures of the bizarre medical experiments. I don’t want that to happen to our kids. And that’s what’s going on right now.”
Deutsch later came to regret his statement and felt he was being too harsh with his stance.
“Conservative lawmakers in nearly a dozen other states, including South Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky and New Hampshire, are pushing similar proposals. The measure had gained the most traction in South Dakota, where the House recently passed it.”
It seems odd that this wouldn’t pass. It doesn’t stop gender reassignment surgery entirely, it just prevents rash decisions and allows children to grow up a little before they make such a permanent change.

I just want to remind you that the “d__b f__ks”, as you put it, are children and they are unfairly getting swept up in the rush to transition. They cannot be expected to understand the complexity of this issue as it relates to their health or their future. Instead, “watchful waiting” would seem to me to be a more appropriate intervention until they are adults. I have read and heard that a full 80% and more of these kids decide, in the end, NOT to transition even when homosexuality is their sexual preference. Also, in some situations, it appears that both the children’s and parents’ rights are being usurped all in the name of gender transitioning by health care professionals and the local authorities.
To me, the real villains here are the groups pushing this including some parents, some LBGT groups, the cowardly legislators, the money hungry doctors and healthcare facilities, drug companies and the business leaders who are more concerned about their state losing money than they are about kids and their mental and physical health. Here’s an idea for the legislators and business leaders, if some strident group decides to launch a fight to destroy your state’s economy, out them and sue them back! In the toxic environment that we find ourselves in, we need to fight back. We cannot just constantly roll over when the health of our kids and families are at stake. I actually think that many taxpayers would be happy to have you spend their money to address this issue, just don’t launder it to a lawyer friend or relative if you get my drift. Also, establish relationships nationally and advertise to groups who would be more likely to find your efforts on behalf of kids to be a positive and refreshing activity!
As a retired Pediatric nurse, this whole issue disturbs me to no end. The adults in this country need to start acting like adults and they need to start putting all of our kids, families and the country’s needs above all other motives. Like him or not, have you politicians learned nothing from President Trump’s successes??? The South Dakota legislators from all sides are simply a bunch of cowards invested only in fulfilling their own needs however those needs or desires relate to this issue. Every damn one of them ought to either grow a spine or step down immediately! They have no empathy toward the victims or backbone and absolutely no business holding the positions of influence that they do!
