Pro-Police Activists Defy City To Show Their Support

These protests were supposed to be about police brutality but instead have evolved into a chaotic mess. The message the protesters are trying to send is muddied with the violence and then how is defunding the police helping George Floyd or Rayshard Brooks? So they want the police to have less money to spend on training and equipment? But surprisingly many officials are thinking that defunding the police is the right way to go despite the incredible number of shooting we have had recently. Milwaukee City Hall buckled to this anti-police movement and had “Defund The Police” painted on the street in front of the city hall. But not everyone was in agreement with this ridiculous notion, and a group of pro-police activists decided to make a much-needed change.

The mural was painted Wednesday to support the nationwide movement to divert funds from police departments toward schools and youth programs. It was later tampered with to spell out “Defend the Police,” with the “D” painted blue, the first “E” covered, and the “U” changed to an “E,” Urban Milwaukee reported.

Around 30 activists painted the original mural without permits or permission from the city. On Friday, Fox News affiliate WITI-TV spotted a paint job to fix the mural underway.”

The city, of course, changed the sign back as supporting the police is not trendy right now.

Jeremy Wilbur the man behind the “Defund The Police” Street Painting claims he doesn’t understand what people take offense to it.

People keep asking us, what does defund mean? It doesn’t mean abolish,” said Wilbur in a Facebook live video as he surveyed the altered mural. He said he wants to see money for militarizing the police and surveilling protests to go towards schools and mental health. “No we didn’t send you messages of hate. No we didn’t send you messages that were threatening.”

Wilbur said people need to understand the message. “Let’s make this clear for them. We don’t hate cops,” said Wilbur. He called the people that changed the mural “cowards.”

It appears Wilbur plans to continue to paint up other streets as well. The Police will likely help him close these streets down so his group can waste their time defacing other streets. The police are not overfunded, that is an issue and really if these BLM protesters are angry that the police did not act as they feel they should have, then they should be pushing for reform and additional training. Defunding the police will have the opposite effect. Police may not get as much training, departments could end up hurting for supplies, and worse in high population areas cities may not have enough money to pay officers overtime, which could leave communities less protected. So they may not hate cops but they are certainly not helping them.
