NYPD Is About To Be In Dire Straits As DeBlasio Reveals His "Leadership" Skills
Protesters have been camped outside of New York's City Hall demanding the police be defunded. If they had a strong leader Mayor DeBlasio would have already told them, 'No.' But these liberals are proving just how inadequate they are. DeBlasio has decided that the safety of the city and its occupants comes second to the demands to defund the police. He is planning to cut funding from the police by a billion dollars.
"In the latest development, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is grappling with protesters who refuse to leave an encampment in front of New York's City Hall, as they demand $1 billion be cut from the police department's budget. The department's budget is about $6 billion, and the city has a July 1 budget deadline.
"The #DefundNYPD for #NYCBudgetJustice campaign is demanding at least $1 billion dollars be cut from the NYPD’s budget - and this money must be reinvested for services, programs, and infrastructure that directly benefits Black, Latinx and other communities of color most devastated by COVID-19," the website for Communities United for Police Reform says.
De Blasio, in turn, proposed a plan that would cede to the protesters' demand for the $1 billion cut in police funding.
"My office presented to City Council a plan that would achieve the billion in savings for the NYPD and shift resources to young people, to communities in a way that would help address a lot of the underlying issues that we know are the cause of so many problems in our society," he said Monday."
"...Patrick Lynch, president of the Police Benevolent Association, which is the largest union for members of the NYPD, said de Blasio's message "was clear: you will have fewer cops on your streets."
"Shootings more than doubled again last week. Even right now, the NYPD doesn’t have enough manpower to shift cops to one neighborhood without making another neighborhood less safe," Lynch said in an emailed statement. "We will say it again: the Mayor and the City Council have surrendered the city to lawlessness. Things won’t improve until New Yorkers hold them responsible.”
This is just another fine example of poor leadership in a blue state. This budget cut is going hurt Americans, when they call out for police it is going to be that much harder to get one. But I am sure the protesters know better than the leader of the city... If only DeBlasio had the balls to actually lead the city. I hope voters realize this next time they get the chance to vote him out.
