NYC Police Chief Calls For A Public Apology From Gov. Cuomo

New York City’s Police Chief Terence Monahan has had it with Governor Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo is trying to blame the police for not properly containing these violent rioters and looters. He thinks the police should be able to stop every crime before it happens, Cuomo went as far as to call the police “a disgrace.” Monahan heard this and is now calling the governor out and wants an apology for slighting the police that are giving their all to protect their community.

“The police in NYC were not effective at doing their job last night,” Cuomo said at a news conference. “The NYPD and the mayor did not do their job.”

Cuomo then claimed the entire force of 30k should be out there.

Terence Monahan, chief of department of the NYPD, told TODAY on Wednesday that governor’s office called him to apologize Tuesday, and he said the governor also talked directly to New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.

Monahan, though, said, “I hope he would come out publicly and say it again.”

“You have to come out and see what these men and women are doing,” Monahan said. “Don’t ever call them ineffective.”

According to FoxNews, as part of the enhanced measures, police installed checkpoints on the streets to block unauthorized vehicles. In some places, as protesters continued to march into the night, there was relative calm. But evidence of vandalism was once again visible in some parts of the city.

A group of marchers was arrested on the West Side Highway after the 8 p.m. curfew, the New York Post reported, but videos from elsewhere in the city continued to show large crowds into the night.

President Trump, addressing the protests, wrote on Twitter that New York City “was ripped to pieces.”

Trump tweeted later that police officers were not being allowed to “perform their MAGIC” in the city due to its leadership

Cuomo is being unrealistic here, if he wanted a police force of 30k+ to be available on the streets every night then he needs to pay to expand these departments.  The governor is just upset that these protests have got out of hand. He is the one everyone is turning to so of course he is laying it all blame on the police since he is not going to take the heat or pay the police more.

His office did eventually respond and apologize to the police. Now Cuomo is blaming the mayor instead… He wised up quickly.

  • Hmm – starting to sound like cuomo and deblahblah are in a contest to see who can be the most insulting towards the NYPD. I doubt that if cuomo does manage to lower his ‘standards’ to apologize it will be just as mealy mouthed as the latest one (of a long series) from deblahblah. And they wonder why they don’t get no respect on the street.
