For most men, having a brother provides a bond that is unlike any other. Having a son is an immensely proud moment. It offers the chance to impart your worldly wisdom to a miniature version of yourself. But what if you have neither? What if you are in fact the only man in your whole family and have been for generations? That is the reality for James Keleman.
James has always been the only male in his family. He grew up with two sisters and then had four daughters with his wife. Even his two grandchildren were girls. On his 49th birthday, all this was about to change for this family man, despite what he thought.
His daughter, Carie Elbe, decided to let James think that he was getting another granddaughter instead of telling him the truth that his first grandson was on his way.
When the big day arrived and James met his grandson, he was ecstatic, as this video captures.
The family shot a video of the meeting, which Elbe later posted on her Facebook page.
The video started with someone asking James if he was ready to meet his granddaughter. Smiling, he looked the baby up and down and commented on the fingers and hair.
James was so entranced with his newest grand-baby that he didn’t seem to notice Elbe unwrap the baby to reveal a onesie that read:
FYI: I’m A Boy!
The sweet girl managed to keep the secret, and so did the rest of the family. Keleman was completely shocked when he found out there was (finally) a boy in the family. Even better, Elbe named her son Landry James, which made the occasion that much sweeter.
According to Elbe, James was “thrilled for another grand-baby either way, but the way that he found out it was a boy, and on his birthday, that was just the best.” Since she caught his reaction on video, Elbe says that she cries “every time” she watches it.
