Ground Zero: Pro “Defund” Dems Realize Their Mistake A Little Too Late

It’s funny how it works out that way. Dem leaders make a ridiculous move and defund the police and then are surprised that crime is up. What did they think was going to happen? The Minneapolis City Council, comprised of all Dems, is upset that crime is up and is claiming the police are not doing their jobs. Could it be a lack of funding and personnel?

The number of reported violent crimes, like assaults, robberies and homicides are up compared to 2019, according to MPD crime data. More people have been killed in the city in the first nine months of 2020 than were slain in all of last year. Property crimes, like burglaries and auto thefts, are also up. Incidents of arson have increased 55 percent over the total at this point in 2019.

“Residents are asking, ‘Where are the police?'” Councilman Jamal Osman said, MPR reported. “That is the only public safety option they have at the moment. MPD. They rely on MPD. And they are saying they are nowhere to be seen.”

Many City Council Members are claiming the police are just being defiant, refusing to accept that defunding the police has anything to do with it.

Meanwhile, Phillipe Cunningham chided his colleagues for looking to the police for solutions when they called for the department’s abolition just a few months ago.

“What I am sort of flabbergasted by right now is colleagues, who a very short time ago were calling for abolition, are now suggesting we should be putting more resources and funding into MPD,” Cunningham said.”

It’s just amazing that Dems somehow think this is on the police. The police didn’t buckle to rioter and defund themselves. The atmosphere that the city council created by defunding the police and letting the police know they didn’t have their back, caused 100 officers to resign/retire. Who can blame them? An officer has to deal with the underbelly of society, it is not a highly desirable job. It takes an individual who cares about their neighbors and is willing to put his/her life on the line to serve the community. And in this climate that is a tall order when it seems the community is turning against the very people charged to keep them safe.
