The Trump Administration took one last stab at China on the way out telling the world that China has been part of a genocide against Muslims in their country. The Chinese were clearly not happy about being called out like that and are of course upset with the sanctions Trump has imposed upon them. So in what appears to be retaliation China has sanctioned almost thirty people from entering their country.
Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying put out a statement including who is now banned from China.
“Over the past few years, some anti-China politicians in the United States, out of their selfish political interests and prejudice and hatred against China and showing no regard for the interests of the Chinese and American people, have planned, promoted and executed a series of crazy moves which have gravely interfered in China’s internal affairs, undermined China’s interests, offended the Chinese people, and seriously disrupted China-U.S. relations. The Chinese government is firmly resolved to defend China’s national sovereignty, security and development interests. China has decided to sanction 28 persons who have seriously violated China’s sovereignty and who have been mainly responsible for such U.S. moves on China-related issues. They include Michael R. Pompeo, Peter K. Navarro, Robert C. O’Brien, David R. Stilwell, Matthew Pottinger, Alex M. Azar II, Keith J. Krach, and Kelly D. K. Craft of the Trump administration as well as John R. Bolton and Stephen K. Bannon. These individuals and their immediate family members are prohibited from entering the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao of China. They and companies and institutions associated with them are also restricted from doing business with China.”
” Bolton appeared to celebrate the sanction against him, calling it “great news” in a tweet posted Wednesday afternoon.
“I accept this prestigious recognition of my unrelenting efforts to defend American freedom,” he wrote.”
“The Trump administration had steadily ramped up pressure on China since last year but had increasingly so over the past several months. During its last weeks in office, the administration had hit numerous officials with sanctions for their actions on Tibet, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the South China Sea.”
If China doesn’t like them it means they did their jobs. According to experts China is trying to topple the United States Government and is the greatest threat to America. Bolton is right it should almost be seen as a badge of honor. We can only hope that Biden heeds the advice of experts here. But seeing as he is going out of his way to undo everything Trump did, he may just try to “fix” the relationship instead of seeing them as the enemy they are.
