Arrests Made At Capitol Hill; Ocasio-Cortez Already Stirring Up Trouble
For the second time in less than a month, climate change activists have stormed Nancy Pelosi's offices.
Early this week, hundreds of protesters made their way to Capitol Hill demanding that Democrats take actions to address the issue of climate change.
The Hill reports,
The activists with the Sunrise Movement, a group that’s pushing House Democrats to create a special committee next year focused entirely on climate change initiatives, engaged in three sit-ins inside the offices of the likely next Speaker, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif), as well as incoming Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), who is in line to chair the House Rules Committee.
Most of the protesters, who ranged in age from their teens to their late 20s, were eventually pushed out by Capitol Police after threat of arrest.
Officers did arrest 138 protesters on charges of blocking hallways, Capitol Police said.
The protests are the second wave organized by cbd products Sunrise Movement to disrupt the Capitol since the midterm elections. Protesters in early November organized a sit-in inside Pelosi’s office in conjunction with Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y), who is leading the organization’s call for the creation of a climate change committee and for a "Green New Deal." Fifty-one protesters were arrested at the time.
The group started into Pelosi's office in the morning demanding to speak with her and demanding Democrats push their agenda for creating a special committee to advance climate change efforts starting next year.
Politico reported Nancy's response,
“We are inspired by the energy and activism of the many young activists and advocates leading the way on the climate crisis, which threatens the health, economic security and futures of all our communities," Pelosi said in a statement. "I have recommended to my House Democratic colleagues that we reinstate a select committee to address the climate crisis. House Democrats ran on and won on our bold campaign for a $1 trillion investment in our infrastructure that will make our communities more resilient to the climate crisis, while creating 16 million new good-paying jobs across the country.

Nancy, when your own people start turning on you, it's time to throw in the towel.
So it seems that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is already stirring up a commotion and she still hasn't even taken her seat yet. God help us all.
