AOC Is Outraged That The Corona Relief Bill Doesn't Cover Illegals
The Senate has finally agreed on a relief bill to help Americans through this pandemic. But now the House has to agree to the bill and it looks like AOC wants to stop the bill because it doesn't cover people who are not American citizens.
"Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., does not share the enthusiasm Democratic leaders showed toward the coronavirus stimulus bill that the Senate passed this week after extensive negotiations, claiming that the provision that will send money to individuals does not go far enough.
According to the bill, nonresident aliens are not eligible for the payments, which are generally $1,200 for those who file taxes as individuals and $2,400 for those who file jointly."
AOC said as much on Twitter.
"To clarify, $1200 checks are ONLY going to some w/social sec numbers, NOT immigrants w/ tax IDs (ITINs).
Thanks to GOP, these checks will be cut off the backs of *taxpaying immigrants,* who get nothing. Many are essential workers who pay more taxes than Amazon.
Wall St gets $4T"
"What Trump + Senate GOP have done is hold hospitals, working people, and the vulnerable hostage so they could get in $500 billion (that will be leveraged into $4T) in corporate welfare.
Without the Wall St giveaway, GOP refuses to fund hospitals & unemployment. It’s inhumane."
"Ocasio-Cortez’s complaint extends to those who are residing in the country illegally, as illegal immigrants can also obtain an ITIN.
The Tax Policy Center found that the vast majority of American households, roughly 90 percent, will benefit from the checks.
The New York lawmaker also proclaimed the GOP is refusing to fund hospitals or unemployment, despite the fact that the bipartisan bill provides $100 billion for hospitals and the vast expansion of unemployment benefits:"
This is like when AOC called for funds to be sent to the border and then voted against the very bill that was made to help migrants. It seems like it is never enough for AOC, she would rather screw everyone over if the bill is not to her liking. She seems to forget that her job is to help the American people.
