It has to be tough to be a Republican living in a blue state like California, talk about a minority group… California is still semi in lockdown as they just recently entered into phase two of opening the State. But some resident have had enough and have decided to take a page out of the Dem playbook and have created their own kind of “Sanctuary City.” The town of Atwater has decided they will no longer be locked down and the residents have decided to open up regardless of what Governor Newsom wants.
“The [Atwood] City Council heard from a parade of business owners, pastors and residents on Friday who described pandemic-related hardships. Many insisted they could be responsible and keep the Merced County community safe by following safe practices like wearing face masks and keeping social distance.
A tearful Donald Covington, president of the Old Town Atwater Association, said businesses need to get up and running. “People are starving. Two family members have two small businesses, with small children and no income,” he added. “We need to do this today.”
“If they don’t open up, they’re going to be in a really bad state, and we’re going to have bankruptcies and foreclosures and we’re just going to have families that are decimated financially,” said Chamber of Commerce President Don Borgwardt, who is also a local pastor and made a plea for people to be allowed back inside houses of worship.”

“It’s time to do the right thing and listen to the people who put us here,” Mayor Paul Creighton said. “We want you guys to survive and thrive. It’s really critical that the electeds in this country and especially this state start listening to you.”
States should be opening up, people need to eat and go back to work in order to put food on the table. Americans should just err on the side of caution for a bit, wear some PPE or check for fevers when going back to work. These State Leaders need to start getting our country back to normal. Small businesses can’t stay closed forever and we are getting to the point where some businesses will never open up again, especially if this continues.
The damage to freedoms in this country are already done. Closing of – PUBLIC LANDS – , people against people to the point of violence if non conforming to gov. rules . And it was the – gov. – ,, who perpetrated this calamity on ALL OF US . The news ( msm ) who keep the fear mongering going FULL TILT no less.
No, they are yet another step closer to making Americans slaves of the realm , as it were .
When they come for your weapons people,,, DO NOT , TURN THEM IN .
We citizens need to remember we are the bosses and they were elected to do what we feel is best for ourselves and country and not act as our parents. We do not elect government official to act as our parents and decide what is best for us, to punish us if we don’t do what is best for us. We elected them to run the nation and they even screwed that up. We have a nation where the majority of all states are deep in debt, the fed government is so deep in debt it will take an act of God to get us out of debt and it all stems from poor leadership for years and years. Now we have that same government of state officials becoming dictators and causing more people to lose their businesses and homes because the government is once more “here to help us”.
Any of these people who are forcing businesses to stay closed should have their salaries stopped immediately until the shut-down rules have expired. They need to participate also.
You just hit on the solution. Politicians are still getting paid. Stop all their pay, make them go home and shut themselves in and see how long this lasts? After about a week all restrictions would be lifted. None of the politicians telling us how we must suffer are participating in the suffering. They should all be fired, recalled and we should send new people, non politicians, to those jobs with strict term limits. Once they realize they will have to live with the laws/rules they make while in office, maybe we’ll get some practical thinking. Term limits and strict spending limits on campaigns with only government money allowed. No re-elections means no need to beg for money for campaigns. If you want office you can run, but serve only once. We don’t need career politicians, we need folks with common sense and logic, not power seekers.
Although we don’t hear much about it, in Mexifornia you can be most certain one class of people are NOT suffering but are being well taken care of- illegals and DACAs.
California liberals are self-destructing their own state. Good riddance. Conservatives need to leave California as did my multi-generational California relatives.
Time to turn that blue state red. You’ve not only seen how the dems treat their residents, but you’ve experienced it too. When more considerations are spent towards illegals rather than citizens, it’s time to wake up and change things around. Otherwise, you’ll see your children and grandchildren become second and third class citizens under those not born here. Too much of everything you’ve worked hard for is disappearing and given away free to others.
