Bolton Fires Back At Trump Over Twitter Remarks

John Bolton has been making the news, as Dems were hoping that his testimony would help them to take down Trump. There should be no chance of that now since the Senate has reached the decision not to bring in witnesses. But it appears Bolton is not done meddling. He plans to publish a tell-all book and it’s not going to be painting Trump in a good light. So Trump is, of course, angry about the slander and barbs have been traded.

“Former National Security Adviser John Bolton on Thursday defended the impeachment inquiry witnesses who have been attacked by President Trump, implicitly hitting back at similar criticism he has faced for his role in the process.

KXAN reported that as Bolton was speaking to a private gathering for an investment firm in Austin, Texas, he defended several of the officials who testified in the House impeachment hearings, including Alexander Vindman, William Taylor, Fiona Hill, Tim Morrison and Marie Yovanovitch.

“All of them acted in the best interest of the country as they saw it and consistent to what they thought our policies were,” Bolton told the audience during a Q&A session, according to KXAN. “The idea that somehow testifying to what you think is true is destructive to the system of government we have — I think, is very nearly the reverse — the exact reverse of the truth.”

Bolton said administration officials should “feel they’re able to speak their minds without retribution” on Thursday, a potential reference to Trump’s comments the day before.”

`This was partially in response to Trump bashing Bolton on Twitter.

For a guy who couldn’t get approved for the Ambassador to the U.N. years ago, couldn’t get approved for anything since, ‘begged’ me for a non Senate [sic] approved job, which I gave him despite many saying ‘Don’t do it, sir,’ takes the job, mistakenly says ‘Libyan Model’ on T.V.,” Trump raged.

Trump went on to accuse Bolton of “many more mistakes of judgement [sic],” and said Bolton “gets fired because frankly, if I listened to him, we would be in World War Six by now, and goes out and IMMEDIATELY writes a nasty & untrue book.”

There is talk of parts of the book being too revealing as Bolton was a direct advisor to the president, so their conversations are supposed to be considered privileged. But the book is yet to be released and is not due to until March, so he could wisely revise it.

  • And I used to think that Bolton agreed with The President’s Foreign Policy, but I guess Bolton is too far out there even for “the Donald” !

    • Clearly Bolten believes only in Bolten! I’ve always been aware of his vanity, his strutting self important attitude, but I had believed him, while boring in the extreme, to be a sincere patriot. He’s certainly proved me wrong on that!!

    • Bolton has always been a neo-Conservative, eager to go to war…or escalate a war. And for many years, Donald Trump has questioned the war strategies of the politicians. As a combat Vet, I don’t regret having served in the sandbox, but there comes a time when you just get fed up with all the deployments and it is taxing on the services and the public. President Trump is right to ask more of other nations, particularly those of the Middle East, but also of NATO. America has been shafted for the rest of the world for too long. Europe and most of the ME has had the benefit of American presence/protection and money/infrastructure and those other nations who benefit SHOULD be paying their fair share. And that is the big difference between the politicians and an outsider. As for Obama, he talked a lot of shyte, bending over for every caliphate in the ME, but Obama was a bona fide pussy on the world stage.

  • Bolton even talks about the two phone calls and the meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky. His characterization of the calls the president had with Zelensky and the relationship? Not unusual, not concerning, but “warm and cordial.”
