Wisconson Senator (R) Ron Johnson wiped the Senate floor with Democrats Wednesday. While Johnson’s remarks were aimed at the Democratic party as a whole, the Senator took particular aim at Sen Gary Peters. Previously Peters was caught telling members of the media that Johnson was spreading Russian disinformation on Hunter Biden.
Johnson has called Peters out for lying and did so again on the Senate floor:
“I just have to talk about Russian disinformation because the people peddling it are not on my side of the aisle,” Johnson said.
“Senior Democrat leaders, including ranking member Peters,” he continued, “they were involved in a process of creating a false intelligence product, it was supposed to be classified, they leaked to the media, that accused Sen. [Chuck] Grassley, the president pro tempore of the Senate, and myself of accepting and disseminating Russian disinformation.”
Johnson said Peters “introduced that false information” – which he said was itself Russian disinformation – into the record of the committee’s investigation. He went on to say that after Democrats said revelations from Hunter Biden’s laptop were Russian disinformation, they later learned that there was a real, ongoing Justice Department investigation involving Hunter Biden.
“So it’s just galling – and I have to point out – that the purveyors of Russian disinformation, Hillary Clinton’s campaign, the DNC, the Steele dossier, the ranking member Peters accusing Sen. Grassley and I of disseminating Russian disinformation – that’s where the disinformation is coming, the lies, the false allegations.”
Earlier in the hearing, Peters had said that holding a hearing on election irregularities was “dangerous,” because it dealt with false claims about the election.
Addressing Peters’ previous remarks, Johnson said that suspicions of election irregularities are not disinformation, but questions that require explanations “to restore confidence in our election integrity.”
Peters tried to star Johnson away from the subject, stating that he had nothing to do with the document Johnson referred to. Johnson immediately interjected.
“You lied repeatedly. You lied repeatedly to the press that I was spreading Russian disinformation, and that was an outright lie, and I told you to stop lying and you continued to do it.”
Peters explained that this hearing was not meant “for the airing of grievances,” but never responded to Johnson’s concerns,
“This is terrible what you’re doing to this committee,” Peters said.
“It is what you have done to this committee, falsely accusing the chairman of spreading disinformation,” Johnson fired back. “Nothing could have been further from the truth and you’re spouting it again, which is why I had to respond.”
Ron Johnson, like many Americans, is clearly sick of the left spinning stories that suit their narratives and declaring unsavory facts about members within their party as ‘falsehoods’.
