You have to commend anyone who serves as a police officer right now. Especially the harder hit-riot ridden cities, like Seattle. Their bravery and perseverance is astounding, even in the face of immense misplaced hate and violence- they press on. Not many people could handle the strains they’re under in the best of times. One Seattle police officer gives a grim look at what it’s like to protect and serve his community during the riots/
Officer Adam Fowler, 34, was one of the 6 officers struck by fireworks thrown by the angry mob that plages their city. Officer Fowler described the assault like being hit in the face with a hammer.
“As soon as they encountered us, it got pretty scary because they started launching and throwing fireworks at us,” Fowler told KOMO News. “There aren’t tiny fireworks, they’re firecrackers, commercial-grade mortars… they should be launched hundreds of feet in the air in a safe place to be detonated so they can put on a firework display. These aren’t meant [to be used] for weapons.”
Bodycam footages shoes the officers were not only the target of exploding fireworks but rocks and bottles were projected at them as well. Fowler said that when one of the explosives went off in his face he lost his vision momentarily. The blast left him with a swollen and lacerated face.
“The only thing I could see was a bright flash and then a loud bang and what felt like a hammer hitting me in the face,” he said. “My first initial thought was, I’m going to lose my left eye and that was pretty scary.”
Another officer suffered burns to the back of the neck. In total, six officers were injured and 18 people were arrested, reports show.

Fowler moved to Seattle from Colorado where he also served as a police officer. Reports show that he has served the police force for at least five years. The news station added that Fowler supports peaceful protests but noted that these are clearly just violent attacks.
“They want to harm us, harm businesses, harm things in Seattle and then quickly turn the story on us like we have created something bad when they are seeking us every night,” Fowler said.
