This is just how messed up some places are in the world. Iran appears to be a culture that goes easy on parents that kill their children. In this case, a father killed his own daughter. So what did she do? Kill a relative? stab a baby,? what could she have done to deserve such a fate? Turns out she ran off and eloped with a much older man and for some reason, she’s the one to blame…
“The father of a 13-year-old in Iran beheaded her with a farming sickle while she was sleeping, reputedly as an “honor killing” for falling in love with an older man. Romina Ashrafi, who lived in Hovigh, Talesh county, had fled her home after her father said he was furious that she planned to marry 35-year-old Bahamn Khavari.
The families of both Khavafri and Romina contacted authorities, triggering a five-day search that culminated with Romina being returned to her home, despite the fact that Romina said her life would be endangered by returning home. The father later turned himself into the police as he held the bloody sickle.
The Daily Mail noted that Romina’s return to her home was “required by Islamic Republic laws,” adding, “Iranian laws mean girls can marry after the age of 13, though the average age of marriage for Iranian women is 23.”
“Since he is the ‘guardian’ of the victim, based on Iran’s Islamic penal code, the father will be exempt from ‘qisas,’ an Islamic term meaning ‘retaliation in kind,’ or retributive justice,” Al Arabiya reported”
“District governor Kazem Razmi said the girl’s father is being held in custody and an investigation into the case is underway.
The Vice President for Women’s Affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar has also announced a ‘special order’ to investigate the murder, Iran International said, and her father faces a prison sentence of up to 10 years if convicted.”
“While the exact number of honor killings in Iran is not known, a Tehran police official has previously said they account for around 20 percent of Iran’s murders.”
What a messed up culture. Yes, the daughter should not have run off, but why is the father blaming her? Isn’t the 35-year-old male really the responsible party here? She was practically a child…
Something is being either ignored intentionally or simply not understood.
People coming to America are bringing their customs with them, they are not assimilating like earlier immigrants.
I have spoken to people from India and have been told that what is done in India will still be done in America, for example, arranged marriages and not allowing marriage outside their religions (I feel like I’m back in the 1950’s with this, back then Catholics and Jews could not marry or the Catholics would be thrown out of the church). Foreign immigrants, legal and illegal have no intention to change and their hold on family will result in deaths like this one, stay in the fold, or die. And with the large numbers of immigrants, legal or otherwise, and staying in their ghettos, will actually result in their not changing so much as they expect America to change to their lifestyles. If America thinks the white/black issues are big, these “immigrants” will make that look like a picnic on a Sunday afternoon.
