When tragedy struck and Officer Lesley Zerebny was taken from this world far too soon, leaving behind a grieving husband and their 4-month-old daughter, Cora, something incredible happened.
With this, a group of big-hearted California moms decided that they couldn’t sit idly by while this family struggled through their darkest hour. So, they did what moms do best: they took care of one of their own.
These amazing moms collected and donated a whopping 500 ounces of their own breast milk to ensure that little Cora would get the nourishment she needed during this critical stage of her life. They made sure the milk was screened and tested and then sent it off with love to the Zerebny family. Talk about a powerful example of people rallying together in the face of heartache.
The Zerebny family couldn’t have been more grateful for this remarkable act of kindness. And who wouldn’t be? It’s a beautiful reminder that even when life hits us with its worst, there are still incredible people out there willing to lend a hand, or in this case, a few ounces of milk.
Word of this inspiring act spread like wildfire through social media, touching the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people. This heartwarming tale shows us that, even in the darkest of times, love and compassion can shine a light that makes all the difference.
One of the women spearheading this mission of love and support, known simply as Ashley, didn’t want to take any credit. She modestly shared that she “just wanted to do a good thing in a bad situation.” Well, Ashley and the rest of those wonderful moms certainly did just that.
In the meantime, the man responsible for Officer Zerebny’s death, John Felix, was arrested after a dangerous shootout with the police. Authorities are seeking to charge him with the murders of Officer Zerebny and her partner, Jose Gilbert Vega, a thirty-five-year veteran who was just about to retire. The officers were trying to communicate with Felix when he suddenly opened fire, injuring a third officer in the process.
So, let this story be a reminder to us all: even when it seems like the world is full of darkness, there are always people out there shining a light with their kindness and compassion. And sometimes, that light is all it takes to make the world feel a little bit brighter.
