A Michigan couple had a little bit of fun naming their 14th son, little did they know, his middle name would be making headlines around the world.
Back in April, a very amazing, completely improbable event occurred–a 14th child was born to a Rockford, Michigan couple. Having 14 children is something that, these days especially, you just don’t hear of all that often. But, incredibly, that is not the thing that makes this large family so notable: it’s the fact that all 14 of these kids are boys!
Nope, we’re not joking…

Jay and Kateri Schwandt’s kids span an entire generation, the oldest, Tyler, is 25 years old, and the youngest, newborn Finley has yet to hit his first birthday. What made Finley especially unique, (besides him being the 14th brother in the massive family) is his middle name. As a matter of fact, it’s so unusual that news outlets the world over immediately gravitated toward the moniker–Finley Sheboygan.
Can you guess why the Schwandts decided to give their newest addition such a unique middle name?

Kateri recalled that when she was young, her father used to tell her a story about a Native American chief who was the father of many boys.
The chief believed his next child would be a boy, but his wife gave birth to another boy, which he named “Sheyboygan” which means “She’s a boy again.”
“Kateri and I are both in our 40s now so we know we’re coming to the end of this,” Jay said. “So when we found out she was expecting number 14 we really relished everything that’s gone along with her being pregnant again thinking this is probably the last time.”
He added: “We’re just as excited with number 14 as we were with number one. It’s something we really enjoy and the boys have such a good time with it.”
Finley will grow up with brothers Tyler (25), Zach (22), Drew (21), Brandon (19), Tommy (16), Vinny (15), Calvin (12), Gabe (11), Wesley (9), Charlie (8), Luke (6), Tucker (4) and Francisco (2).

The couple later decided to follow the story of Kateri’s father. They used “Sheyboygan” as Finley’s middle name.
“We’ve got all boys, so it’s what we’re used to. It would’ve been nice to have a girl, but we’re super excited to have another boy. Some of the boys were hoping for a little sister, and some were rooting for another brother. I was pulling for a girl,” said Jay.
