Gov. Northam's Attempt To Vilify The Pro-Gun Rally Fails Epically.
Virginia's Anti-Gun Governor Northam is claiming that his preparations for the Peaceful Pro-Second Amendment Rally prevented violence. He is trying to further demonize lawful gun owners and second amendment defenders. The problem with Northam's claim is that despite his call for a state of emergency and the abundance of first responders at the event, nothing happened. In fact, not a single citation was handed out at the rally that had to do with guns or those attending. And there were quite a few people in attendance with estimates of over 15k people. They even picked up after themselves.
Northam released the following statement, patting himself on the back as if he saved the day.
"We are all thankful that today passed without incident. The teams successfully de-escalated what could have been a volatile situation. This resulted from weeks of planning and extensive cooperation among state, local, and federal partners in Virginia and beyond.
Virginia’s law enforcement and first responders demonstrated tremendous professionalism. I’m proud of their work. I have spoken with Colonel Settle of the State Police, Colonel Pike of the Capitol Police, and Chief Smith of the Richmond Police Department, as well as leaders of the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office, and thanked them for keeping Virginia safe.
Thousands of people came to Richmond to make their voices heard. Today showed that when people disagree, they can do so peacefully. The issues before us evoke strong emotions, and progress is often difficult. I will continue to listen to the voices of Virginians, and I will continue to do everything in my power to keep our Commonwealth safe."
"The hysteria completely backfired. The event went on without violence, with even the left-leaning Washington Post, whose own coverage had been alarmist, admitting that it “never erupt[ed] into the violence authorities had feared,” and that the “police reported no major incidents.”
"This all amounts to a massive liberal own-goal. Anti-gun leftists in Virginia and in the liberal media warned that the pro-Second Amendment protest would be dangerous and violent. Reality reminded us once again that law-abiding gun owners are not the problem."
"Monday's rally was part of Lobby Day, an annual event in Virginia where advocates of a variety of causes descend on Richmond's Capitol Square to plead their cases to legislators. Gun rights advocates have shown up in past years but the turnout Monday has grown astronomically."
The MSM and Northam were hoping violence would erupt, it would further their anti-gun agenda. But the rally went well. Hopefully, Northam takes this as a sign that his people don't want strict Gun Control Laws.
