DISNEY Closing Iconic Ride Because They Say It’s Not Woke Enough…

In preparation for a more “inclusive” experience featuring Princess Tiana, Disney announced that its iconic ride, Splash Mountain, would close at Walt Disney World Resort on January 23, 2023.

Beginning in 2024, guests will be able to join “Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to throw a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans,” according to a blog post that was published last week. Zydeco music and other distinctive cultural elements of the Mississippi River Delta will be featured in the event, which is based on the animated film “The Princess and the Frog,” which is focused on black culture in the Big Easy.

In accordance with social justice ideology, many large corporations signaled assent to the Black Lives Matter movement and made gestures, during the time following the passing of George Floyd. In which, Disney announced the shutdown of Splash Mountain at Disney World in Florida.

Tiana is a modern, courageous, and empowered woman, who pursues her dreams and never loses sight of what’s really important. And with this longstanding history of updating attractions and adding new magic, the retheming of Splash Mountain is of particular importance today. The new concept is inclusive — one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year,” as Disney explained in a different blog post two years ago.

According to the company, an announcement about the Splash Mountain attraction at the Disneyland resort in California will be “shared at a later date.” Both parks will get Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Prior to the company’s announcement, there were petitions specifically asking for the replacement of Splash Mountain, which critics claimed initially contained “extremely problematic and stereotypical racist tropes” from the movie “Song of the South,” with an attraction based on the life of Princess Tiana. In a study conducted last year by Upgraded Points, Splash Mountain is the seventh most well-liked attraction at Disney World.

Over the entertainment conglomerate’s involvement in political and cultural battles, Disney has, however, recently been under fire from constituents and lawmakers. Customers’ confidence was ultimately violated as a result of the company’s opposition to Florida law that forbids teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity to pupils in kindergarten through third grade. Disney lost specific tax and regulatory advantages that were given to it by the Florida state government through the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which is where Disney World and other theme parks are located.

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger, who abruptly succeeded Bob Chapek as CEO, bemoaned the company’s involvement in the controversial debate. He told employees, “I was sorry to see us dragged into that battle, and I have no idea exactly what its ramifications are in terms of the business itself.”

“What I can say is that the state of Florida has been important to us for a long time, and we have been very important to the state of Florida.”

Nevertheless, in the marketplace, Disney continues to push controversial content. Since the start of the year, Disney stock has dropped by about 38%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average has dropped by more than 6%. As a holiday weekend launch for the animated movie “Strange World,” which features a same-sex young romance, saw disappointing box office results. The most recent entry in the enormously successful “Toy Story” series, “Lightyear,” also struggled and contained a same-sex kiss.
