A Texas pedophile facing the consequences for his heinous crimes chose a dramatic and fatal escape in the courtroom rather than accepting the severe punishment he so rightfully deserved.
In a shocking Texas case, a pedophile, realizing the severe punishment he would face for his unspeakable acts, chose to end his life in the courtroom rather than suffer the repercussions. As the sordid details of 57-year-old Edward Leclair‘s crimes emerged, it was revealed that he had repeatedly sexually assaulted a girl between the ages of thirteen and seventeen from 2016 to 2018.

Upon being found guilty of the first count of sexual assault, Leclair astonished the courtroom by chugging a cloudy liquid from a water bottle. Unbeknownst to everyone present, he had somehow managed to secure a deadly dose of sodium nitrite while in the courtroom. As his guilt was announced on additional counts, he continued to consume the fatal substance.

Jamie Beck, First Assistant Attorney from the Denton County District Attorney’s Office, recalled, “It wasn’t like he was just taking sips of water. He was literally throwing it back, so to speak.”
At the time, Leclair’s actions seemed peculiar, but Beck assumed it was just the pedophile’s way of dealing with the reality of being a convicted sex offender.
When Leclair was returned to his holding cell, officers, alerted by his strange behavior, found him collapsed on the floor. One witness said he had “gone gray.” He was rushed to Medical City Denton, where he was pronounced dead. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office later confirmed that Leclair’s death was a suicide resulting from ingesting the toxic sodium nitrite.
Leclair’s attorney, Mike Howard, told The New York Times that his client faced up to one hundred years in prison for his abhorrent crimes. Howard stated, “I think he made the decision to do what he did at the last moment.”
