Dave Chappelle has a new stand-up special on Netflix called “The Closer.” During his special, he came down on the trans community for bullying his friend to the point that his friend committed suicide. Libs/LGBTQ are of course up in arms and want Chappelle canceled.
“…a transgender writer for the Netflix show “Dear White People” tried to muscle Netflix into canceling Dave Chappelle by threatening to stop working for them if they don’t stop airing his specials. Netflix doesn’t appear to be caving.”
“I told the story of my transition for @netflix and @most‘s Pride week. It’s a network that’s been my home on @DearWhitePeople. I’ve loved working there. I will not work with them as long as they continue to put out and profit from blatantly and dangerously transphobic content.”
“So when he says people should be mad a trans woman won a “Woman of the Year” award… When he misgenders… When he says he should’ve told that mother her daughter WAS A DUDE… I just can’t… I can’t be a part of a company that thinks that’s worth putting out and celebrating.”
“I love so many of the people I’ve worked with at Netflix. Brilliant people and executives who have been collaborative and fought for important art… But I’ve been thrown against walls because, “I’m not a ‘real’ woman.” I’ve had beer bottles thrown at me. So, @Netflix, I’m done.”
Netflix clearly has no intention fo taking Chappelle’s standup down:
“Chappelle is one of the most popular stand-up comedians today, and we have a long-standing deal with him. His last special “Sticks & Stones,” also controversial, is our most-watched, stickiest, and most award-winning stand-up special to date,” said CEO Ted Sarandos in a statement to his employees.
In other words, money talks and Dave Chappelle is raking in a ton of it. Meanwhile, “Dear White People,” now in its fourth season, has declined in popularity with every subsequent season, the fourth season being the absolute worst.
Netflix is right not to cave. Good on them. Companies have to stop canceling people and giving into these ridiculous boycotts. We have the freedom of speech here in American, and it’s high time we started protecting it.
