I guess there was not enough to worry about already when it comes to Afghanistan. So now Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has brought up a very concerning subject. Austin is warning that America needs to stay vigilant because we don’t know if Al Qaeda is going to come back or not.
“I think the whole community is kind of watching to see what happens and whether or not al Qaeda has the ability to regenerate in Afghanistan,” Austin said.
“Ya know we put the Taliban on notice that we expect for them not to allow that to happen. But we do have the ability to address threats using over the horizon capabilities and you have also heard me say that our capability has evolved dramatically over the past 20 years, and I can certainly attest to that personally. ”
“The nature of al Qaeda and ISIS-K is they will always attempt to find space to grow and regenerate, whether it’s there, whether it’s in Somalia, or whether it’s in any other ungoverned space,” he added. “I think that’s the nature of the organization.”
Watch The Clip Below.
“The Taliban allowed al Qaeda to operate in Afghanistan when it ruled the country from 1996 until 2001. Following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the U.S. invaded and overthrew the Taliban when the government refused to hand over al Qaeda leaders.”
“Though the Taliban pledged to the Trump administration in 2020 not to support al Qaeda or other extremist groups, officials from the U.S. and many other nations, including several Gulf Arab states, claimed, believe the organization maintains ties to al Qaeda and worry that the Taliban’s return to power will invite an al Qaeda resurgence.”
There have also been claims that the Taliban and Al Qaeda are all the same people just under different names. So there is no telling what is going to happen in that chaotic country.
