I could have sworn Press Secretary Jen Psaki was part of the Biden Administration. If I was to go by her answer it would seem they are not running this country. Psaki had the nerve to get snappy about the crisis at the border and foolishly claimed that the migrants storming our border are somehow not Biden’s problem, but instead the DHSs.’ That’s one way to distance yourself, warping the reality of a situation.
Q: “There are reports out there that the number of unaccompanied migrants detained at the border has tripled in the last two weeks to 3200+. Is that number accurate?
Psaki: “I’m not going to confirm numbers from here, obviously the DHS and others oversee the programs and the engagements that happen at the border. I will say that there are a couple of reasons, I know I am asked about our kind change in policy. But there are a couple of reasons why we think people are coming to the border. Of course, individuals are fleeing countries where individuals and families are you knew they are fleeing prosecution, fleeing violence, fleeing economic hardships, and other things.
The region has also experienced two hurricanes in the fall, putting further stress on the conditions in these countries and the circumstances that are facing individuals, and all of this is taking place during a global pandemic that has impacted other countries economies placing undue hardships on its people just as it did in the United States. So there are also a range of factors that are leading individuals to come to the border.”
Q: “And Jen, why won’t you confirm that number, that’s a very important number?”
Psaki: “We have been very clear that there is an increase. There are more children coming across the border than we have facilities for at this point in time. Those numbers are tracked by the Department of Homeland Security. So I’m certainly …I’m just suggesting that you talk to them about specifics. ”
Q: “We talked to them, Jen. They won’t confirm the numbers.”
Psaki: “I would encourage you to go back to them & ask them again. We are not going to confirm them from the WH. It’s not our program, it’s the Department of Homeland Security’s.”
Q: “So is the White House encouraging the department to release those numbers then, in the spirit of transparency that the Secretary promised here at this podium?”
Psaki: “We certainly encourage transparency. But what I also think is important is to talk about what the root causes are here and what we are doing from a policy standpoint to try to address the challenges that we are facing and these kids are facing as they come across the border.”

Wow, so instead of just saying that she did not have the most current number on hand, she decided to say it was not her job. But it is her job to answer the Press to the best of her ability. She just tried to pawn off the problem to the DHS as she did not want to go on record that the numbers were so high. The crisis at the border has gotten out of hand and she knows it. The Biden Administration is using the same detention centers Trump’s admin did and due to their welcoming message to migrants they now will need to likely build more.
