This is called reaping what you sow. A Virginia Pastor thought it was wise to hold service and gathered his congregation. He boasted about how the virus was not a big deal and felt his service should be considered essential. The problem is he didn’t abide by any social distancing or any of the guidelines. So a week after he paid the ultimate price for being so reckless.
“An evangelical pastor died of COVID-19 just weeks after proudly showing off how packed his Virginia church was — and vowing to keep preaching “unless I’m in jail or the hospital.”
“I am essential,” he said of remaining open, adding, “I’m a preacher — I talk to God!”
“Glenn happily announced enjoyed being “controversial” for violating public safety orders saying he had “way more” than ten people at the March 22 service.”
“On Sunday, his church announced “with an exceedingly sorrowful and heavy heart” that the pastor had died a week after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
His wife, Marcietia Glenn, is also sick with the bug, with church members offering their prayers.”
“Bishop Gerald Glenn, founder and leader since 1995 of the New Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Chesterfield, was the first black chaplain of that community’s police department and was a police officer before becoming a pastor, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Sunday.”
He was a friend and a pillar of the region’s faith community, U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) tweeted Sunday.
“My heart sinks as I learn this morning that Bishop Gerald Glenn, pastor of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, died yesterday from COVID-19,” Kaine said. “May all do as much for so many.”
They say the service was populated by 185 people. Glenn put 185 people in danger when he was warned and knew better than to hold the service. This is no joke. Those 185 could very well have spread that to others, especially if they listened to Glenn, who was a pillar of their community and downplayed just how dangerous this virus is. So there is no telling just how many people were infected due to his selfish want to hold service. A good shepherd protects their flock and Glenn, in this instance, recklessly put his congregation in danger.
