This pandemic has many of us over a barrel. There are far fewer people interested in buying things outside of groceries and essentials, as we are not sure how long this thing is going to last. Some experts say this could last up to 18 months… I hope they are wrong. There are about 16 million people unemployed at this point and that number is growing. So Trump said he would sign whatever came across his desk to help relieve the American people in this trying time. This would have worked well if not for Dems. Pelosi and Schumer decided this was the time to take advantage of Americans by demanding their addons to a bill meant to aid small businesses. So now small businesses are in the lurch as Dems hold their relief hostage.
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer said Monday that they won’t agree to the Trump administration’s insistence on more money for small business loans unless their demands are met for additional funding for hospitals, state and local governments and food stamp recipients.
“We’ve committed to small businesses. We should top up that program now,” Mnuchin said at a briefing of the White House coronavirus task force. “I know the Democrats want to talk about more money for hospitals and states. Right now, we’re just sending the money out to the hospitals and states. They haven’t come close to using that money.”
Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Schumer (D-N.Y.) also rejected suggestions from President Trump that the country could reopen quickly, saying “there is still not enough testing available to realistically allow that to happen.”
The back-and-forth between Mnuchin and the Democratic leaders on Monday followed a Saturday statement from congressional GOP leaders in which they, too, rejected the Democrats’ demands and showed no interest in negotiating.
The developments appeared to harden a stalemate on Capitol Hill over how or when the federal government will take further action to address the worsening economic impacts of the coronavirus, with millions newly unemployed and much commerce in the nation at a virtual standstill as the U.S. confronts recession conditions.”
This is not the time for bickering. The previous Corona Relief bills helped corporations, it is time to help the small mom and pops that are struggling now that most people are staying in.
For the good of the country and citizens how about Congress introduce Bills that have only ONE subject to vote on. Let it stand on it’s own and let the people know how they voted!
HOSPITALS need more money too, as do states—they have to pay out the unemployment insurance, and that requires them to have staff, and they are not likely to get much in the way of taxes with the economy in the toilet.
One bill for one stand alone item. Let it stand or fall on its merits..
